Abstract. Parts of geometric error coupled into space error is the main reason that affects
machining accuracy of machine tools; therefore, how to determine the effect of geometric error to
the machining accuracy and then assigning geometry precision of parts economically is a difficult
problem in machine tool designing process. Therefore, based on multi-body system theory, a
sensitivity analysis method of geometric error is put forward in this paper. Lets take precision
vertical machining center for an example. Firstly, an accuracy model of machining center is
established based on multi-body system theory, and with 21 geometric errors obtained through
experimental verification, key error sources affecting the machining accuracy are finally identified
by sensitivity analysis. The example analysis shows that the proposed method can effectively
identify the main geometric errors of parts that have great influence on volumetric error of machine
tool, and thus provides important theoretical basis to improve the accuracy of machine tool
economically.
Introduction
Along with the rapid progress of science and technology, machinery industry demands more and
more parts processing with high precision, design and manufacturing of precision CNC begins to
aim at high precision, high intelligence and high accuracy. Generally, the key technologies to
improve the accuracy of machine tools include precision design and error compensation [1-2]. In
traditional machine design, machine precision level mainly relies on the experience method [3-5].
Research shows that geometric errors and thermal deformation of the error cause the 70% of the
total error of [6, 7] machine tools, and because each error has a different effect on the integral
accuracy, to realize the control of accuracy is also different. In order to reduce the waste of cost
during the design and manufacturing, such as resources, performance, it is very necessary to carry
on research on accuracy design for machine tool. At present, there are already some research work
applied multi-body system theory to accuracy modeling for machine tool[8-12],but error sensitivity
analysis research has been adopted rarely so far.
Due to high requirements of accuracy, manufacturing funds of equipment will become quite
high accordingly. In order to solve this problem, this paper analyzes geometric error sensitivity, and
