This procedure establishes a Total Vehicle Accelerated Corrosion Test for Passenger Car and
Light Truck. This test is used to determine the corrosion resistive integrity of the total vehicle
including body, chassis, electrical, engine, climate control, transmission components, fasteners
and manufacturing.
The test consists of 100 cycles of controlled humidity soaking and drying, salt spraying and
mileage accumulation over various road surfaces during which the vehicle is exposed to salt,
dust and gravel, as well as, local ambient temperature and humidity variations. APG test
vehicles should not be operated on the track or out-of-doors during periods of rain. LPG test
vehicles should minimize exposure to rain where possible. The total humidity soak time is
2550 ±25 hours. The total Drying Chamber soak time is 375 ±25 hours. Test vehicles
accumulate approximately 8,000 km, (5,000 miles), during the test. Total test time is
approximately 26 weeks.
1.1 COMMONALITY. This is a CONTROL TEST and can be used to qualify vehicles or
components to the WCR throughout the world. The test may be conducted at any location
having the necessary equipment and facilities. Proposed revisions to this procedure must be
submitted per FAP03-179.
