Key words:foIlow rest,suppoclaw,wear,roling bearingsFollow rest is one of attachments of lathe,gener-aly fixed in the lathe saddle and lnoves following be-hind in turning tool when turning。to withstand cut-ting force on the workpiece[1].As slender shaftworse stiffness,turning is more dificult,especiallyturning that does not alow being connected to theknife in the middle,so follow rest should be used toclamp the slender shaft21.Ifllow rest is used tosupport slender shaft,which can enhance its strengthand rigidity,effectively prevent the bending deforma-tion of the workpiece,and ensure the quality of theprocessing.Wear of supporting claw of folow rest isone of the common faults in the turner production。

Follow rest usually has two types of two claws supportand three-jaw support,and based on the three-jawfollow rest to put forward and improve a new llowrest to extend the life in the turner production,there-by improve economic efficiency。

In order to im-prove stability when turning,the front end of eachsupport claw is provided with two rolling bearing,in-teraction, supporting pawls after the improvementshown in Fig.2.Bracket assembly instead of the duc-tile iron block in supporting pawl tip, two rolingbearingsSeS3 mounted on the bracket 1,the pin 2 pas-through the bearings and gaskets 5,and the pinensures the stability of the bearing in the longitudinalposition as the gasket ensures bearing not from side toside,and then screw 4 fixed pin。

The roling friction is hinder that is generated whenan object rols(or scrol trend)along the other objectsurface against objects roling,and roling instead ofsliding can greatly reduce the frictional resistance[5].Roiling bearings together with the workpieceare doing rotational movement when workpiece iswhirling,which changes the sliding friction to rollingfriction,reduces the coeficient of friction as a resultof reducing friction and wear.Besides damage to theworkpiece is also smaller, thereby overcome wearproblem of ductile iron block in supporting claw frontend before improved。

2)Double bearings.If single bearing,the con-tact area is small and small pressure roles in theworkpiece,and reach less than ideal results.There-fore it can increase the contact area and act the work。

3)Increase the allowed speed of the workpieceand improve the processing quality. Follow rest be-fore Improved when turning,due to the wear of sup-porting claws,with the result regularly adjust ductileiron block in supporting claw front end so as to guar-antee a stable turning.After improved,roling bear-ings together with the workpiece do rotation with min-imal wear and can be allowed high-speed rotation ofthe workpiece,which makes it achieved to turn slen-der shaft parts at high-speed。

The bracket assembly that improved is mountedon the adjustable sleeve of folow rest,and the struc-ture diagram shown in Fig.3。

The application of this program to im-provement of lathe centre rest is equally applicable。

武汉理工大学 a.能源与动力工程学院;b.工程训练中心,武汉 430063摘要:车床跟刀架是径向支撑旋转工件的辅助装置,加工时,与刀具-起 沿工件轴向移动。针对某车间现有传统车床跟刀架支承爪磨损严重的问题,借用滚动轴承改进设计了-种新型跟刀架,利用滚动摩擦代替滑动摩擦。经实践检验,该方法效果良好,有效地解决了支承爪的磨损问题。
