Research of influence of particle surface roughnesson nan0indentati0n resultsGU Sheng-ting,BAO Yu-mei,CHAI Guo-zhong,W U Hua-ping(Colege of Mechanical Engineering,Zheiiang University of Technology,Hangzhou 310032,China)Abstract:In the process of particle nanoindentation in composite coatings, the contact areacalculated from the maximum indentation depth is always influenced by the top of peak and thebottom of valley of the particle.A finite element(FE)model of particle-matrix nanoindentationwas developed and the particle morphology effect on nanoindentation results had been studied。

The results showed that the errors of elastic modulus and hardness calculated from load-displacement for particle indentation raised with increase of curve of particle surface.A simplemodel was developed to modified the calculation of contact depth and the results,compared withFE results,showed that the errors of elastic modulus and hardness were decreased,revealing thefeasibilitv 0f the mode1。
