The principle to solving the equation of the contour surface of a barrel indexing cam mechanism is discussed based on the offset surface method. Compared with the envelope method and the method of conjugate surface,the offset surface method has clear geometric meaning, and is much more simpler than the methods mentioned before in solving the contour surface equation.
